Dale Earnhardt

Description

Dale Earnhardt Sr. is one of the best Stock Car drivers of all time, winning 76 races over his career and seven NASCAR Winston Cup Championships (now called Sprint Cup). His career began in 1975 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and he was called “The Intimidator” for his aggressive driving style. He died February 18, 2001, in a last-lap crash at the Daytona 500. I was working on this painting at the time of the crash, finished it that night, and it was published as a tribute in The Dallas Morning News, where I worked as Illustration Director. A road leading to the Texas Motor Speedway is named for Earnhardt.
